Some cars come with a 4-channel audio head because these cars come with pre-installed door speakers who are four in number. The audio head is always compatible with the stock speakers that are installed in the car. When people install a more powerful speaker in the car more power is required.

Take the audio head unit out of the dash

There is a specific way to take out the audio head from the dash because every car has a similar but different type of fitting in the dash. So, you have to see the user manual for opening the dash of the car and taking the head unit out of it.

You may have to use tools like a dash-opener and a screwdriver because the dash is always fixed with some adjustments and fittings. After opening the dash of your car, you need to open the screw of the audio head and take the audio head out of the dash.

If you already have speakers installed in your car, which most cars have, then you have to plug out the power wires of the speakers and create a new structure of wiring that we are going to tell you afterward.

Locate all the currently installed wires

If you already have speakers installed, then you may have the wiring installed in your car. You must locate all the wires wherever they are and create a new wiring structure according to your requirements. What is your requirement?

As you want to install 6-speakers to a 4-channel head unit, you must have a 4-channel audio head in your car. There will always be a different case for every person to use this method to wire their speakers because some people might have two speakers in their car, and some might have four. So, we will explain the method as you are installing a new set of speakers in your car.

To install the wiring in your car you have to take out the dashes on the sides of your car so that it is easy for you to work your way from there. If you already have wiring for stock speakers, then you have to take them out of their location so that you can easily create a new wiring structure in your car.

Select the location for your car speakers

Before diving into installing the wiring for your speakers, you must see where you will install your speakers in your car. Well, there are not enough places to select if you have a simple car. Whereas, if you have an SUV, then you may have different choices for your selections.

Most commonly, people try to install the speakers in the doors or the trunk of their car. We will suggest you the best location for your speaker so that you do not have to compromise any of the space in your car, especially the trunk of your car.

The best way to wire six speakers in your car is to wire them in the doors and above the trunk. You can wire four speakers inside the doors and two speakers behind the backseat of your car. So, you have to find or create a better enclosure for your speakers to mount perfectly.

Wire with a proper architecture

Now, you must be wondering that how can you wire 6-speakers with a 4-channel audio head unit. You may have heard of the series and parallel connection of the speakers. We will give you a better solution for our problem with a parallel wiring of your speakers.

So, as the head unit is out of the dash of your car, there are 4-channel ports located at the back of the audio head unit. You cannot install 6-wires on it directly. So, you have to follow a specific type of wiring structure to power your 6-speakers properly.

Keep in mind that you must not use speakers which require high power to function. Always use 4-ohm or less than 4-ohm speakers. Connect the two wires to the positive terminal and two wires to the negative terminals of the channel ports behind the audio head unit. Now, the next step is to route these wires to the selected locations for the speakers.

Route the 2-channel wires from the left side of your car, and 2-channels from the right side of your car. you must always route these wires behind the dash, to inside the door, to the location where the speaker should be mounted. So that the wires do not get exposed to the passengers of driver’s feet while they are traveling.

As all the four channels are busy to power 4-speakers, here is what you need to do to wire two more speakers in your car. you have power the four-door speakers of your car. Now, you do not have any port in the head unit to install more 2-channel wires for two more speakers. You will follow the next step to power two speakers which are located at the back of your backseat.

Connect the negative wire of the left speaker which you are installing above the trunk with the negative wire of one of the speakers installed in the left doors. Connect the positive wire of the left speaker to the positive wire of the other speaker installed in one of the left doors.

So, one of the extra speakers is powered now. What you have to do next is, you have to connect the negative wire of the right speaker, which you are installing above the trunk with the negative wire of one of the speakers installed in the right doors. Connect the positive wire of the right speaker with the positive wire of the other speaker.

In this way, the wiring of two extra speakers can be done if you have a 4-channel head unit.

Mount the speakers

When the wiring is done, you have to mount all the speakers inside their enclosures. In this way, the wiring will not be exposed and the speakers will be fitted properly. You must use the required nuts and bolts or screws to mount all the 6-speakers in your car.

The speakers that are to be installed above the trunk will have a wooden sheet on which the speakers will be mounted with screws. The speakers that are to be installed in the doors may cause some problems. If your car does not have a factory fitting for the speakers, then you have to get a custom-built enclosure or fitting for your doors to mount the speakers in them.

Door speakers will also require nut-bolts or screws to mount properly in the doors.

Test the speakers after attaching with the Car Head Unit

The last and very important step in wiring your speaker is to test your speakers. You can test the speakers by turning the audio head unit on and playing some music on it. Play the music loud to check the efficiency of the head unit of your car.

The head unit can work fine with the present structure of wiring. Whereas, the proposed structure does not put heavy load on the head unit. It will only draw a little amount of power from the other speakers. So, you will not have to upgrade the head unit of your car.
